Beginning in 2023, the City will will no longer require Lake Forest residents to purchase licenses for dogs and cats. Based on resident feedback and discussions with multiple departments, the City decided to discontinue pet licenses. Lake County also requires animal licenses and the City’s license was duplicative. Lake Forest Police would like to remind residents that, pursuant to the Lake County, IL Code of Ordinances Chapter 172, every dog and cat older than four months residing in Lake County must be vaccinated against rabies and be registered.
No dog shall be permitted to run at large in The City of Lake Forest. Dogs must be leashed in all City parks, and owners are required to clean up after their dogs. No dog shall be permitted, except on a leash, to use or be upon any public street, sidewalk, or parkway. Dogs are not permitted at Forest Park Beach.
